The arc that this opening is based off of is when Okita goes on a killing rampage and starts killing Shinsengumi members on the fly.That and the fact most of the arc actually takes place during night/cloudy weather which would fit the song pretty well since the title of the song I'm pretty sure is either translated to "Downpour" or "Rainy Weather".
